The Limonaia is the beautiful indoor venue to the left of Villa Passerini where lunch or dinner receptions are organized. It can accommodate up to 230 guests. Next to the banquet hall, there are two bathrooms for the guests and spacious rooms dedicated to catering and banqueting services, that are well equipped and have their entrance from the back: the logistics of entering the limonaia from the back is excellent because it gives management services great freedom of movement, without any disturbance to the guests.
The path towards the reception room leads through a typical Italian garden with geometric beds of boxwood hedges and a circular stone basin. In a corner of the garden there is a neoclassical temple, one of the distinctive decorative elements.
The façade of the Limonaia is decorated with “rocaille” (shells mixed with lava rock to create a decorative effect similar to mosaic) and opens onto the beautiful frescoes that date back to the beginning of the 19th century. This ancient technique, popular in the golden age of the patrician villas, was used by many well-known artists who made some of these houses masterpieces of art.
The interior of the Limonaia is divided into two naves with vaulted ceilings frescoed with trompe l'oeil drapes which open onto landscapes, scenes of military life and the city of Cortona.
Large doors and windows open the view from the banquet room onto the to garden and let in light during daytime, the fragrancies and colours of the intensely pink lagerstroemias, the violet wisteria and pure white jasmine. In the evening, an elegant atmosphere is created by lamps hanging from the vaults that enhance the fairy-tale play of light and shadow of the candelabra and the illuminated foliage of the trees outside.
